What is Peer 2 Peer?
The Pathfinder Peer 2 Peer program teaches students(Links) about a variety of disabilities and how they impact social skills. This allows the general education student to develop and spread tolerance and acceptance. Students with social difficulties can then practice social skills in all educational settings and gain competency in natural environments.
Links in the Peer 2 Peer program sign up for the Peer 2 Peer class as an elective. Students are trained in aspects of ASD as well as discuss how they can help their peers who are struggling during the school day. After training is completed the link student will go into class with the student they are supporting. They attend that class only as a link and are not responsible for the content of the class-just helping another student!
BENEFITS TO STUDENTS WITH ASD: Improved socialization and independence
BENEFITS TO LINK STUDENTS: Improved organization, diversity awareness, self-esteem, problem solving skills
